¡¡¡¡Poplar resource in Changde city:ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ÙSince 1978,European-American black poplar has been introduced to plant in lake area in the plain of western Dongting Lake.By the end of 2002,quick-growing poplar of 150 million mu for industrial raw materials had been planted on acceptance  of forestry authorities with the growing stock being 2.50 million cum.ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ÚThe planting area is distributed in Yuangjiang River valley,Lishui River valley and the lake area of the western Dongting Lake plain.ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ÛThere are 1 county,whose poplar-planting area is over 300 thousand mu,2 counties,whose poplar-planting area is over 200 thousand mu,6 counties,whose poplar-planting area is over 100 thousand mu,and 20 townships whose poplar-planting area is over 10 thousang mu in the whole Changde city.ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ÜAmong the present quick-growing poplar in Changde city,there are 428,500 mu in  the outer islet in a river,205,300 mu in the sand-bar of western Dongting Lake,278,700 mu in returned area,485,200 mu beside embankments and road and 104,200 mu in other areas.ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ÝThere are 680 thousand mu within 1-2 years and 820 thousand mu over 3 years interms of the age of poplar.ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ÞFor poplar resource in Changde city,its planting technology,busingess level,planting area and output of timber rank first in China.Only Hanshou county of Changde city is designated to be the hometown of poplar in China by the State Council.ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ßThe forest area in Changde city is 11.30 mullion mu.The present forest area is 8.92 million mu and the total growing stock is 13.38 million cum,including pine (masson pine,foreign pine etc) area of 1.80 million mu with the storage of 4.23 million cum,broadleaf forest area of 2.50 million mu with the storage of 4.50 million cum.ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢àIn short,2 million mu (including 600 thousand mu plantation in this winter andnext spring) poplar in Changde city can meet the demand for materials of plantation-paper integration.Moreover,partially lumbering pines and broadleaf trees and timbers in neighboring regions can make up for its shortage.ª¤

¡¡¡¡Poplar potential in Changde City:ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ÙChangde city government has decided to make the forest-paper integration as a mainstay and leading industry.ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ÚChangde city is carrying out five 1-million-mu project to restructure agriculture,including the planned poplar area of 6 million mu.ª¥

¡¡¡¡Utilization of poplar resources: ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ÙThe present poplar resource can meet the requirements for establishing a 600-thousand-ton mechanic pulp plant and paper mill (the rotation period of poplar is  6 years and the storage per mu is 8-10 cum).ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ÚWhen the poplar area is expanded to 6.0 million mu,the raw materials for a 2-million-ton chemical pulp plant or a 3-million-ton mechanic pulp plant or paper mill can be met.ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ÛA 500-thouasnd-cum board plant can be established by using middle and large caliber poplar with short rotation.ª¤

¡¡¡¡Construction environment:ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ÙChangde is the largest energy base in Human province.Power price for industrial use is 0.47 yuan RMB per KWH,0.41 yuan RMB KWH for key industry,0.17 yuan RMB KWH for all-time low.ª¥

¡¡¡¡¢ÚChangde is one of 60 expressway pivotal cities in China and the only inland city that simultaneously has railway,expressway,airport and waterway in Hunan province.ª¥
